Not Another Papercut!!!!

I'm not sure if it's because the weather is dry or my hands are dry or another reason, but I seem to be getting so many papercuts!! ARGHH.. as soon as one heals, I get another.. !)@(#*!@# (maybe it's just because I'm working with so much PAPER..bah)

Life is pretty busy. My to do list is a mile long and people have many requests of me. Not minding the work, the only problem is my energy level. I've been really tired the last few weeks - I think the time adjustment thing really hit me hard.

I recently finished working on two websites. One is for CCANB's 30th anniversary (located at www.ccanb.ca) and the other is a performer's website (click here). The first one took me a long time to do - playing with the colour palette was a big headache as I was trying to work with orange, in the end, I still had to resort to using blue (which I was trying hard to avoid as it's probably the most common colour people use on websites since it's a more neutral and eye pleasing colour). Anyhow, the 2nd website was pretty easy since I used a template to create it, it was just a matter of working with images and doing some coding. I've become a tad anal with website coding ever since Chien Ee taught me to use notepad and not Dreamweaver to do my editing. In fact, taking a look at CCANB's official website (click here) is making me irritated.. I am itching to clean up the code (actually, to be honest, I've already started to work on coverting the code over to CSS but I'm no where near finished and I have a ton of other things that require my attention, so to the backburner it goes!).

Actually, one of the things I've been working on at the ECC is designing posters. They have a bunch of conferences or whatever and they wanted to bring a bunch of information posters along to use. SO, they give me all this random stuff and ask me to try to compile it into a poster for them. I tell you, I procrastinated down to the last minute before I thought of what I could do. I actually had some help from Chien Ee in terms of the technical stuff. Website design & graphics are actually very interesting to work with! I don't know if I would have the patience and the creativity to do it as a full time job, but definitely would like to do it on the side. In fact, when I presented the poster to the director at the centre, she was pretty thrilled with it and even asked me whether I had considered a career in graphics design (HAHAHAHA.. ya right.. I'm basically a copy cat when it comes to doing all this stuff).

This brings me to a new update. I'm probably going to be sticking around the centre for the summer. I don't think I mentioned it before, but they are working on a Early Childhood Curriculum funded by the NB government - worth a couple of million dollars. Anyhow, they've asked me to work on the technical aspects of it, with a graphic designer (who is really great!), so I'm pretty excited to learn from her. I'm also hoping that I'll be able to get more involved with the more educational aspect of it so that I can expand on my teaching knowledge. Before I get ahead of myself, still need to find out if it's full time or not..keeping my fingers crossed.

As some of my loyal fans (haha..just kidding), I mean long term readers, know, way back when I started this blog, Chien Ee, YC and I were attempting to go into freelance webdesign. Recently, I've been thinking of going down that route again. Perhaps this summer.. it'll require a bit of prep work and initiative but even if I could get a project or two, it'd be nice. We would still have to put together a portfolio, but I don't think that'd be hard given the number of sites we've done so far! SOO, if you know of anyone looking for a webdesigner .. you know what to do ;) (I'm not computer programming pro as some of you would happily vouch, but Chien Ee has very strong programming skills).

Anyways, besides that, spring seems to finally be on its way! I'm looking forward to the warmth again. I'm also itching to go outside and jog.. I'm getting sick of the elliptical machine and sometimes it's just such a pain to make it down to the pool as they have such terrible hours for lap swim. Plus, the chlorine is bleaching my hair again! ARGH..

OK, I'd better stop here. I've two posters to try to finish for tomorrow. *YAWN*. Ciao.

Bitterly Cold... Yet Again

Well, the weather has turned bitter again. Who would have thought we'd be back to -35 degree weather again!? Not I. Anyways, its suppose to warm up this weekend, which is slightly comforting, I suppose.

This week is March Break. Doesn't really feel much like a break to me, but oh well. I'm still working this week at the ECC plus all this March Break dance stuff. I tell you, the schedule is enough to drive ME nuts, nevermind the dancers... some girls are dancing up to about 7.5 hrs per day.. geeshhhh...

I was at the public library for a bit today, and wow. They got a new self-checkout system! I was so excited! They have them at the Ottawa public library (I assume all branches over there have them, I've only really been into one public library branch in Ottawa) and I think they are super! Not only do you get to check yourself out, but it's pretty fun too. HEHEHEHE!

Everytime I go to the public library, I get this sense of ... comfort and security. Odd as that sounds. I just love libraries. I love that libraries are quiet and full of people who are generally not irritatingly rude and flashy. People aren't climbing over each other to get noticed. I love that you can be in the library and be able to be in your own little world....... Perhaps I'm a tad odd, but I also love the smell of new books........

Have you ever noticed that once we get to about midway through the winter, anyone who has a decently clean car gets stares of admiration? I am so bothered by the amount of dirt, salt and water staining that is currently on our car, but it seems pointless to pay for a carwash. The car will be clean for a day or two (if I'm lucky) and it'll be back to square one again. This brings me back to the whole pros and cons of having a dark coloured car (I believe I made a post about this a few years ago). I think I only have one good thing to say about dark coloured cars - you can park it under the sun in the winter and the car can be slightly warmer than a light coloured car would be :P *big deal*

YC: Got your card today, thank you. I agree with your message (both inside and outside) - I hope that it stays true for all of us, especially this year... your wish couldn't have come at a better time for me. Thanks again! :)
